Geometric, Dotwork & Sacred Geometry Tattoos — Bay Area
I'm Kevin Ligabue, a tattoo artist at Future Ink in Oakland, California, and geometry runs through almost everything I make. Clean lines, precise dotwork and ornamental structure are the foundation of my style, and I build them into large-scale custom pieces for clients across the Bay Area.
What are geometric tattoos?
Geometric tattoos use exact shapes, symmetry and repetition — lines, dots, mandalas, ornamental patterns and sacred-geometry forms — to create designs that feel balanced and deliberate. They can be purely abstract or carry meaning through sacred-geometry symbols. The whole style lives or dies on precision, which is why clean linework and even dotwork matter so much.
Dotwork, linework and ornamental
I work mainly in solid black, fine linework and stippled dotwork, often combining them in a single piece — crisp outlines with graded dotwork shading and ornamental detailing. Sacred geometry, mandalas and pattern work are a natural fit, and I design each one custom to flow with your anatomy rather than sit flat on it.
What to expect
Every project starts with a consultation, in person or by DM, to talk through the design, placement, scale and budget. I draw it custom, then we book your sessions — larger geometric pieces are built across multiple appointments so the linework and dotwork stay clean and the skin heals well. You'll get full aftercare before you leave, and I'm reachable between sessions.
Placement and scale
Geometry is made for large, flowing canvases: full and half sleeves, leg sleeves, backs and torso pieces, where patterns can connect and wrap the body. It also works for strong standalone pieces like mandalas and ornamental panels.
Related styles
Geometric work blends naturally with my Japanese geometry, heavy blackwork, suminagashi, and blackout pieces.
Common questions
-
What's the difference between geometric and dotwork tattoos?
Geometric describes the design — shapes, symmetry, pattern. Dotwork is one technique for rendering it, building tone and shading from thousands of individual dots. I often combine geometric linework with dotwork shading in the same piece.
-
What is sacred geometry in tattooing?
Sacred geometry uses shapes and proportions found throughout nature and traditional symbolism — mandalas, the flower of life, repeating ornamental forms. I design these custom rather than copying flash.
-
Do geometric tattoos age well?
Clean linework and even dotwork from a specialist hold up well over time. Precision at the start is what keeps a geometric piece looking sharp years later.
-
Do you only do custom designs?
Yes. Every geometric piece is drawn specifically for you and your body

Where are you located?
I tattoo at Future Ink in Oakland, California, and work with clients from across the entire San Francisco Bay Area.
